We know that bicycle infrastructure is what make places safer for everyone to ride.
The 2015/2016 Geelong Council budget for bike infrastructure is 192k – about 1% of $19million dollars of the ‘roads’ spend. This is logical spending if the Council’s goal is to increase the amount of vehicles on the road and reducing rider numbers. Fortunately we know the council have a different agenda.
We are asking for a Geelong Council to aim for a 5% increase in rider numbers over the next five years. To do to this we believe a 1% increase in the bicycle budget every year for those fiver years can get this done. The bicycle budget in 2019/2020 would be $960k.
We’ll be speaking to Councillors about this goal before the next years budget.
