after our meeting with Vicroads the temporary path promised has been delivered. This new path will allow cyclists who wish to keep off the roads to access the Waurn Ponds Creek Trail from the Barwon River Trail with a minimum of on road riding.
To use this path it is necessary to turn off the Barwon River Trail at the Moorabool Street Bridge, pass by the new criterium track or even ride on part of the circuit returning to the path opposite the RSL and cross the Colac Road with the lights.
Take the path down to the Belmont Common Golf Club Rd, continue down the road to the gate and turn on to the path which will bring you on to this new bypass and on to the Breakwater Rd Barwon Heads Rd intersection where you can cross with the lights.
After you have crossed Breakwater Rd continue on the shoulder for approximately 500 metres to the Waurn Ponds Trail.
good work BUG.
I also got out the boltcutters and created access through a non esssential wire fence erected by the bridgemakers. this allowed walkers and riders to continue to use this route:
START – barwonheads rd, heading towards geelong, cross over bh rd just north of waurn ponds creek, travel on the gravel road/track around the cricket fields, towards the gun club. the bridgemakers had erected a tall galvanised wire fence so people could not access breakwater road. So this is where I cut the wire around the gun club.
at the same time the pedestrian lights were not working at the intersection of BW RD and BH RD.
two weeks later a proper temporary path was created which passes by the gun club.
