Wednesday October 12th is Ride to Work Day 2011. Join the 1000s of others who will ride their bike to work on Wednesday, many of who doing it for the first time.
The biggest week ever for cycling in Geelong is upon us. In fact the 2010 UCI Road Cycling Championships are probably going to be the most important sporting event that Geelong will ever host. 200,000 or so spectators are expected to line the course, with millions more from around the world watching the action unfold…
The Belmont Criterium Track was officially opened yesterday. Geelong Mayor John Mitchell, councillor Bruce Harwood, and South Barwon MP Michael Crutchfield were in attendance, along with many members of the Geelong Cycling Club, the Geelong Veterans Cycling Club and the wider cycling community.
The 2010 Ford Otway Classic will take place on November 7th this year after being cancelled in 2009. The bike ride, which takes in the Otway Ranges and the Great Ocean Road, has been run since 1980 by the Geelong Touring Cyclists, but was cancelled last year due to increased traffic management costs.
Bicycle Users Geelong has run a bicycle commuting workshop at the Alcoa Point Henry plant on behalf of Greening Australia. On Wednesday October 14th, Allan Marshall and Mark Boyanton discussed bicycle commuting safety, equipment and maintnenance tips with Alcoa employees attending the workshop.
Wednesday October 14th saw many Geelong residents take part in the 2009 Ride to Work Day. The City of Greater Geelong is put on a breakfast and entertainment for participants at the City Hall Forecourt. The early morning rain may have dissuaded some participants, but plenty of riders still took part. Well done to all…

Bicycle Users Geelong has taken part in a low carbon transport workshop as part of the Geelong GreenHome workshop series run by the Australian Conservation Foundation. BUG members facilitated discussion about using cycling as a sustainable transport option, and provided information about cycling in the Geelong region.
